PhotoVogue Festival 2025 Panels | Honoring Indigenous Cultures

The PhotoVogue Festival, the first conscious fashion photography festival that focuses on the common ground between ethics and aesthetics, returns for its eighth edition. From March 6th to 9th, 2025, BASE Milano will host a series of exhibitions and talks analysing the interrelation between humans and Nature, and the relations of kinship we can create with animals, complemented by satellite events at the city’s finest galleries.
Synopsis
Moderated by Nina Gualinga, an advocate from the Kichwa people of Sarayaku and co-founder of Passu Creative, this panel celebrates the resilience and richness of Indigenous cultures through photography and storytelling. Gualinga, a passionate defender of the Amazon rainforest and Indigenous women’s rights, brings her expertise in impact storytelling and her deep connection to ancestral traditions to guide this discussion.
Featuring artists from The Tree of Life: A Love Letter to Nature and Latin America Panorama, the panel includes Angela Ponce, Ana Caroline de Lima, Sara Meneses Cuapio, Maria José Rojas, Tatiana Lopez, Sani Montahuno, Lucia Alonso Garrido, Gleeson Paulino, Mauricio Holc, and Imraan Christian. In The Story Behind the Image, each artist will present their work, offering insights into their creative processes and the personal narratives that inform their art.
The ensuing discussion will explore how these artists use their work to honor their cultural heritage, amplify Indigenous voices, and challenge colonial narratives. From preserving ancestral traditions to addressing contemporary issues facing Indigenous communities, their photography serves as both a tribute to their roots and a powerful call for change. Guided by Gualinga’s unique perspective, this conversation will illuminate how visual storytelling can bridge cultural divides and inspire greater respect for Indigenous wisdom and ways of life.
